Event Description

The Drexel University Department of Architecture Design & Urbanism will host Frank DiCicco on November 19 as part of our Twilight Lecture Series. Periodically, we will bring to campus a notable voice form the region to talk about the design of the built world and its relationship to other disciplines, initiatives and policies.

Frank DiCicco, former councilman of Philadelphia's First Councilmanic District, has been the force behind the most far-reaching design and planning legislation of the last 20 years in Philadelphia. In 1997, he sponsored legislation that created the city’s first major tax abatement program. In 2006, he sponsored legislation that led to the city’s first comprehensive waterfront plan – the Plan for the Central Delaware. In that same year, he sponsored a charter change that led to the creation of the Zoning Code Commission, the body that rewrote Philadelphia’s Zoning Code, the first comprehensive rewrite in 50 years. Neither a planner, an architect nor a lawyer, he has shown tremendous insight about design and has changed the face of Philadelphia.

This lecture will be held at 5:30 pm in the URBN Annex Screening Room. The Twilight Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
