Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify how the following neurological, mind and homeostatic functions are instrumental in the development of chronic pain: acute pain, peripheral sensitization, spinal sensitization, cortical body matrix, neurotags, immune system, microglia, HPA axis and brain states.
  • Discuss why the nervous and immune systems must be considered in combination (neuroimmune) in the biology and production of pain and stress response.
  • Discuss how biopsychosocial factors can influence a neuroimmune understanding of the pain and stress response.
  • Identify and discuss the components of an Explain Pain Assessment.
