Event Description
"Critical Hip-hop Pedagogy: Remixing Why, How, and What We Teach"
with H. Bernard Hall, PhD, Assistant Professor of Urban Teacher Education

Recently, a burgeoning body of research known as Hip-hop Based Education (HHBE) has demonstrated how pedagogies derived from hip-hop culture work to challenge the dominant discourses on effective teaching and learning. In this talk, Dr. Hall will describe how critical hip-hop pedagogies inform his preparation of prospective teachers and discuss the implications of HHBE in STEM education.

CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour is a program hosted by the Center for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning Excellence (CASTLE) and sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The program features a current faculty member who will present a brief overview of an effective teaching strategy utilized in their classroom or laboratory, followed by audience Q&A and discussion.
