Event Description Citizens and urban planners unite in "Urban Strategy in the Present Tense," a year-long speaker series dedicated to the local roots of civic innovation. From reinventing playgrounds, civic design, pedestrian mobility, fair housing, and green urban planning, this series brings together local public, private, and community leaders to discuss strategies for building a stronger, more just, and resilient city.
To kick off the return of our speaker series this winter, we are excited to feature Rev. Gregory Holston, community leader and policy and advocacy advisor of the 57 Blocks Project.
The 57 Blocks Project is focused on reducing gun violence in Philadelphia. The initiative was created after the Philadelphia Inquirer published "Intersections of Injustice," an article that identified blocks in Philadelphia with ten or more shootings between 2015 and 2021. The analysis shows that the blocks are located in neighborhoods with higher poverty rates and lower life expectancy than other parts of the city.
The series is produced by the Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation at Drexel University in partnership with the Urban Strategy Masters Program in Drexel's Westphal College of Media, Arts & Design. Andrew Zitcer hosts the webinar and Thomas Devaney produces the series with production director Hazel Dequito. |
