Staff Grand Rounds: Hypertension - The Silent Killer
Start Date: 2/10/2017Start Time: 3:00 PM
End Date: 2/10/2017End Time: 4:30 PM
Event Description

According to the CDC, approximately 1 in 3 adults have hypertension and an additional 1 in 3 adults have pre-hypertension. Of those with hypertension, only about half are under control.

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) is diagnosed by two separate blood pressure readings >140/90 at two separate visits.
  • Pre-hypertension is diagnosed by two separate blood pressure readings between 120–139/80-89.

The "Hypertension — The Silent Killer" course is designed to provide staff with the skills to participate in the management of the pre-hypertensive and hypertensive population. By the end of this session, staff will be able to:

  • Identify and correct common errors that impact an accurate blood pressure reading.
  • Understand the distinctions between pre-hypertension, hypertension and normal readings.
  • Empower the patient to make appropriate lifestyle changes.
