Detecting Macro, Regional, and Local Signals of Global Change in North American, Subpolar Butterfly Communities and Populations

Vaughn Shirey is a Drexel BEES graduate ('17) who is now working in the Ries Lab of Butterfly Informatics in the Department of Biology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC (https://www.butterflyinformatics.org/). At Drexel, Vaughn was advised by several faculty and staff including Dr. Jon Gelhaus, Dr. Rick McCourt, and Steve Dilliplane. Before starting at Georgetown, Vaughn worked with Dr. Pedro Cardoso at the Finnish Museum of Natural History - University of Helsinki on a Fulbright Research grant where they fell in love with cold environments and the arthropods that call them home. In their PhD research position, Vaughn is focusing on detecting changes in North American boreal and tundra butterfly communities and populations using a variety of data types and Bayesian state-space models.
