Blue Carbon in an Eastern Pacific Reverse Estuary
With my dissertation research, I aim to characterize carbon
cycling across habitat boundaries in an estuary of the Eastern Pacific, with
focus on the role of salt marshes and seagrass beds. Building on an
investigation of organic matter sinks and sources in the bay, I will present
data from last years’ field trips that focused on mapping seagrass by drone and
sonar. Lastly, I will give an outlook on the work planned for this year, which
focuses on aspects of the sediment microbial nitrogen metabolism.
