Title:
Multimodal Monitoring in Traumatic Brain Injury

Speaker:
Anna Rodriguez, PhD
Product Manager
Moberg ICU Solutions

Details:
The last few decades have seen the emergence of neurointensive care as a specialized medical discipline that focuses on severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Neurointensive care has contributed to great improvements in clinical outcomes for TBI patients by focusing on preventing, detecting, and treating secondary brain injury. Traditionally, the management of TBI patients in neuro-ICUs has mainly focused on clinical protocols that aim at reducing high intracranial pressure (ICP) to maintain adequate cerebral perfusion. However, TBI is a very heterogeneous disease in terms of type of injury, age, comorbidity, secondary injury mechanisms, etc. In recent years, multimodal brain monitoring has become more common and it has started to improve our understanding of the complex pathophysiological mechanisms underlying brain injury as well as the effects of clinical treatment.

Biosketch:
Anna Rodriguez, PhD, is the Director of Product Strategy at Moberg ICU Solutions (now part of Micromed Group), a medical device company specializing in neuromonitoring and information management in acute care. Before joining Moberg ICU Solutions, Dr. Rodriguez obtained her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University, where she was a member of the CONQUER lab. Her work focused on the multimodal integration of EEG and fNIRS data in a variety of applications, including cognitive rehabilitation following TBI. Prior to that, Dr. Rodriguez obtained her MS in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, where she worked on the integration of EEG and EMG data during intraoperative monitoring.
