About the Speaker
Valdez is a Community-Based Participatory Researcher who explores the role of family stress on youth and Latinx family mental health and well-being. She is a principal investigator on Lives of Immigrant Families (LIFE), a longitudinal case study of mixed-status families in Phoenix, Arizona, after SB1070 went into law in 2010. She also collaborates with Ana Martinez-Donate, PhD, on the Entre Lineas study of families separated by deportation. She examines how structural and social determinants, including immigration climate and policy, influence family stability, mental health burden, and access to services.

She uses CBPR and Dissemination and Implementation frameworks to develop interventions to improve family mental health outcomes and access to mental health services in the Latinx immigrant community.
