Junior Scientist Virtual Workshop: Have you been living under a rock? - Morning Session
Start Date: 3/13/2021Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Date: 3/13/2021End Time: 11:30 AM
Event Description

Join us for a virtual workshop with hands on activities designed to be done at home with easy-to-find supplies.

How do we know if an ecosystem is healthy? The answer can be found in the water, floating on the surface or hanging out under the rocks! Learn about the invertebrates and plants that indicate if a stream is healthy and how their unique adaptations give them a chance to survive in their watery habitat. Discover the ways in which these living things are connected and how everything in nature connects back to us. Make a splash with some hands-on water activities, right from home. Practice taking a look at the smallest species for the biggest clues, and explore real solutions to keep our waterways clean and safe.

You’ll meet Tanya Dapkey, an Academy scientist from the world-renowned Patrick Center for Environmental Research. Tanya and the team love working in the lab, but they adore field research because they get to see stealthy aquatic animals using cool equipment (like a Surber Sampler!) and getting outside in nature. The wildest bug they may encounter is the caddisfly, a tiny creature that can engineer the flow of water!

$45 Per Child/$60 Per Family ($40 Member Child/$55 Member Family) per workshop
