Water Systems in Math and Science Classrooms
Start Date: 3/22/2017Start Time: 4:30 PM
End Date: 3/22/2017End Time: 6:30 PM
Event Description
Facilitated by Marlene Hilkowitz and Matthew VanKouwenberg

Water has properties that can be used as a means to effectively teach and learn all subjects. Students can be engaged in the study of water, through their prior knowledge or a quick synopsis of relevant issues in order to learn varied outcomes depending on your needs. We will engage in some experiments, discuss labs that can be conducted in classrooms, and use these labs to demonstrate different math and physics concepts.

Marlene Hilkowitz and Matthew VanKouwenberg serve as Master Teachers in the  DragonsTeach Program . Marlene Hilkowitz has spent over thirty years as a science educator, serving the Philadelphia School District and suburban areas, as a high school biology teacher, science supervisor, and District Administrator. Matthew VanKouwenberg was the founding engineering, science and math teacher at Science Leadership Academy (a magnet school in Philadelphia) after working elsewhere in the district and as a chemical engineer.
