GIS Workshop - GIS Part III: Spatial Analysis with ArcGIS
Start Date: 3/22/2017Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Date: 3/22/2017End Time: 11:00 AM
Event Description
Spatial Analysis with ArcGIS, to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the final hands-on training introducing participants to ArcGIS tools that can be used to create spatial variables for public health research.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to use some of the spatial analysis tools available in ArcToolbox, identify the nearest feature and calculate the distance to the feature, create a spatial variable that could be used in a health analysis; and extract information from raster format data at point locations.

The workshop series is cosponsored by the Urban Health Collaborative and the Center for Public Health Practice, both of the Dornsife School of Public Health.

Spatial Analysis with ArcGIS will be taught by Steven Melly, MS. Mr. Melly is a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst for the Urban Health Collaborative at Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University. He has extensive experience using GIS to model the physical world for public health research. Working closely with epidemiologists and biostatisticians, he has used GIS to create variables from spatial datasets that can be used in statistical models of exposure to environmental hazards. He has also used GIS to create neighborhood measures of the social environment.
