Diversity in the Workplace: Navigating the Workplace as a Person of Color

Event Description
This program will feature an opening keynote on the importance of cultural competency and employee knowledge and engagement in diversity, equity and inclusion from Raquel M. Arrendondo, MA, PHR, associate director of outreach, engagement and professional development for Drexel’s LeBow College of Business. Then, join breakout rooms with alumni from the Drexel University Black Alumni Council (DUBAC) and the Hispanic Organization of LatinX Alumni (HOLA) to ask questions and get advice, share stories and experiences and connect and network with peers in a safe, judgement-free zone.

This event is part of Adulting 101, a series of programs hosted by Drexel Alumni to help current students and recent alumni gain skills and insight to help set them up for success after graduation and into the real world.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER



Raquel M. Arredondo is the associate director for outreach, engagement and professional development for Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, Office of Graduate Career Services. In this role, Arredondo drives initiatives and strategies in order to develop relationships with employer partners and to connect students and faculty with co-curricular, internship and employment opportunities. She brings to her role vast experience in consulting, higher education and corporate human resources.

Dedicated to issues that impact diversity, women and wellness, Arredondo has been recognized by the Association of Latino Professionals-Prospanica with the 2018 Brillante Award, and in 2017 AL DIA News Media awarded her the Woman at the Top Award. Currently, she serves as a board member for Prospanica Philadelphia, AL Dia News Media, City Year Philadelphia and PHLDiversity, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition, she is the president of Drexel University’s colleague resource group, Bienvenidos.

A highly sought-after speaker, Arredondo takes great pride in speaking frequently at the annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women, National Black MBA Association, The Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and The African American Chamber of Commerce, in addition to developing and facilitating professional development workshops at Drexel University. Her educational background includes a BA in psychology from George Mason University, an MA in higher education from Rowan University, a professional in human resources (PHR) certification from The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and a certificate in diversity and inclusion from Cornell University.
