Event Description Social, political, and cultural factors play an important role in mathematics education and shape students’ beliefs about their own potential for further studies and careers in STEM fields. This presentation will address some of the challenges created by these factors in a range of educational contexts, with a particular focus on the barriers they can create for students from diverse backgrounds. During this interactive discussion, we will also explore concrete examples of how mathematics teachers and teacher educators can turn these challenges into opportunities to engage their students and colleagues in new ways to promote rich, integrated STEM learning. |
