Event Description First there was #MeToo—the movement supporting survivors of sexual violence—and then there was #BelieveSurvivors—a movement to affirm the validity of survivors’ experiences and center survivors in discussions of violence.
In this iForum discussion, we will dialogue about what people actually mean when they say #BelieveSurvivors. Does this approach erode the principle of due process and promote smear campaigns against alleged perpetrators of violence? Or, is it a reminder that survivor experiences are frequently deemed invalid? Does the meaning change in the context of higher ed institutions, where rules and processes sometimes differ?
The Forum for Inclusive Culture (iForum) is co-sponsored by the Lindy Center and the Office of Equality and Diversity. Some snacks will be provided; feel free to bring your lunch with you.
