Imagine the last time you were in an emergency department waiting room. Patients wait for hours with little idea what is going, leaving people frustrated and in pain. What if the user experience could be improved by altering the perception of passing time? Alyssa’s capstone project, titled “Embrace the Wait: changing perception of wait time in the ER,” seeks to answer that question. In her presentation, she will address how the patient’s perception of passing time can be decreased by reducing anxiety, providing transparency with information, and engaging patients in distracting activities, thereby making the most of long hours spent in the waiting room.
