Cross Country Conversation: Internet Privacy
Start Date: 5/2/2012Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 5/2/2012End Time: 7:00 PM
Event Description
What happens when private information becomes public domain? Do Facebook privacy settings really make your information private? Who is to blame for privacy breaches—web companies, or the user who idly signs away their rights when they agree to the twelve-page Terms of Service? Is it ever justified to release classified information (à la Julian Assange)? How can user privacy be enforced, and who has the right to enforce it? Come discuss these pressing questions and more in a conversation facilitated by Dr. Devon Powers!
-
The Cross Country Conversation series is a quarterly panel discussion where students come together to discuss relevant controversial issues. This quarter's event is on Internet Privacy. There will be a panel of pre-selected students who will present on the topic. Following that, the floor will be open to everyone for an open dialogue on the impact that internet privacy (or a lack thereof) has on society. This is a great opportunity to gain a multi-cultural and multi-national viewpoint on the topic of internet privacy by hearing the views of the various international students, faculty, and staff who will be in attendance.
