Africana Studies Presents: Winter Rae Schneider and Grace Sanders Johnson

What did freedom look like in the "Black Republic?" This talk uses new research in Haitian archives to look critically at legal racialization and land ownership during Haiti's nineteenth century. Engaging Black Geographies and Critical Race Studies approaches, this talk focuses on how competing visions and praxes of freedom can be historicized in rural Haitian landscapes.
