Title:
Ethics of Consumer Neurotechnology

Speaker:
Anna Wexler, PhD
Assistant Professor
Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy
Perelman School of Medicine
University of Pennsylvania

Details:
Recent years have seen increasing investment in consumer neurotechnology products and applications. Associated media coverage has focused on the potential for accurate, mind-reading devices to be a near-term reality. In this talk I will highlight recent developments in consumer neurotechnology and argue that there are reasons why we should maintain a healthy dose of skepticism about its future. I will suggest that this skepticism can inform how we prioritize our consideration of ethical issues, and I will highlight salient ethical issues that present current and future challenges.
