Exchange Transfusions: When, Why and How

Learning Objectives

  • Identify when to use exchange transfusions and when to use alternatives
  • Review the blood components used to reconstitute whole blood
  • Discuss why the use of exchange transfusion is less frequent than it was 60 years ago
