Event Description
The Dragon Fund, managed by LeBow students in FIN 341 and FIN 342 is in its tenth year of operation. Originally funded by allocating $250,000 of the Drexel Endowment to the Dragon Fund, it has grown to nearly 2 million dollars through gains, as well as additional allocation of endowment funds as the Dragon Fund was able to show consistent success in its investment outcomes. Come hear students involved in the management of this fund discuss their strategies and the history of the fund.
The Dragon Fund is oriented to mid-cap equity positions. Returns have consistently been above returns from common benchmarks such as the Standard and Poors 500 Index or the Russell mid-cap index. Returns have also been among the best, if not the absolute best of all investment managers participating in the investment policies of the Drexel endowment. The Dragon Fund has won a national competition for student-managed investment funds and has been featured on Bloomberg TV. Alumni who participated in the Dragon Fund regularly obtain employment at asset management firms such as BlackRock, Goldman Sachs and PNC.
For the Week of Undergraduate Excellence, the students involved in managing the Dragon Fund will provide a summary of the return performance of the fund through time; the investment process of the fund; examples of “pitches” proposing particular additions to the portfolio; and a snapshot of portfolio holdings of the fund.
