DVAN PRESENTS: TRANSITIONING FROM MILITARY TO CIVILIAN CAREERS

Event Description

The Drexel Veteran Alumni Network (DVAN) invites all alumni and students in our military community to attend this panel discussion moderated by Ret. Brigadier General Carol Eggert, senior vice president of Military and Veteran Affairs at Comcast.

Our panel of veteran alumni will share how they leveraged the skills gained during their military experience to launch and advance their careers. Meet the panelists: Carol Eggert (moderator), is a Ret. U.S. Army Brigadier General and senior vice president of Military and Veteran Affairs at Comcast NBCUniversal. In this role, she leads a team that works collaboratively across Comcast NBCUniversal to provide strategic leadership to all aspects of programs and outreach engaging the military and veteran community, including recruiting, hiring and building talent at all levels of the organization.

She brings more than 30 years of military and civilian experience to Comcast. In her civilian role, she assisted various organizations in the private, government and non-profit sectors with their initiatives in knowledge management, strategic planning and project management. During her military career, she served in a variety of command and staff positions and completed numerous overseas deployments, including a 15- month combat tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as Chief of the Women’s Initiatives Division and Senior Liaison to the U.S. Embassy, Baghdad, where she conducted a full-scale analysis of women’s initiatives and developed a strategic plan for the economic and political empowerment of Iraqi women under the U.S. Secretary of State. Christine Dorfler ’09, was appointedCFO, NBC Sports Groupin April 2019. In her role, she is responsible for the financial oversight of NBC Sports Group and its platforms, which consist of NBC Sports, NBC Olympics, NBCSN, GOLF Channel, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, NBC Sports Regional Networks, NBC Sports Radio, NBC Sports Digital and two transactional sports businesses, GolfNow and SportsEngine. Previously, Dorfler served as CFO of the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations since 2011.

A United States Army veteran who served four years as a Military Intelligence Officer, Dorfler supported NATO operations in Bosnia and Albania. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University, where she was a four-year starter on the Division I Women’s Lacrosse team. She received her MBA from Drexel University and serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Villanova University School of Business. Jasmine Okai ’21, is a current student in the LeBow College of Business and is a Veteran Student Ambassador. Shegrew up in Collingswood, New Jersey and was originally born in Accra, Ghana. She served five years in the Air Force while also attending the Air Force Academy. She is currently a senior LeBow student majoring in legal studies and hopes to go to law school to eventually practice contract law. Okai likes to spend her free time either volunteering with children, hiking, cooking or watching movies. Emery Mako ’18, associate, Capital Markets Transformation at PwC,served in the United States Army, including as a helicopter mechanic deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. As a Drexel student, he completed a co-op in Glenmede’s investment strategy team, and was a junior analyst for Drexel’s $2 million Dragon Fund, a student-led team that manages a portion of Drexel’s endowment. He also served as the President of the Drexel Veterans Association and plans to continue his education by pursuing his CFA. In his current role at PwC, Mako focuses on management consulting activities, including intelligent automation and operations transformation.
