Climate Change and Health in Cities: Evidence to Action

Event Description
This self-paced, online course will cover an introduction to climate change's impact on urban health. 
Instructor: Ione Avila-Palencia, PhD, MPH, postdoctoral research fellow, Urban Health Collaborative, Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health
 
This short online course is offered in a flexible self-paced format, equivalent to approximately 4 hours of classroom instruction. The course does not have set meeting times. Course materials will be available June 21, 2021. Students will have 90 days to complete the course. 
 
The course will provide an overview of different climate change effects in cities (environment, health, inequalities) as well as projected changes in the climate system. This course will also review potential solutions and research areas that can be applied to urban areas. Online course material will include video-based lectures, self-assessments, reading material and real-world examples.
 
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the scientific basis of observed climate change effects and projected changes in the climate system. 
  • Identify possible actions and strategies to reduce climate change impacts in urban settings. 
  • Identify research gaps and methodologies that can be applied in future research to address effects on climate change and urban health.
