Join us to celebrate the 20 year legacy of the STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program! Throughout July and August 2022, Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs will host a weekly lecture series, during which Drexel faculty and STAR alumni will give presentations about their experience with and the impact of the STAR Scholars Program. Attendees may join us virtually or in person, with lunch served for in-person attendees.
Speakers for Wednesday, July 20:
Sean O'Donnell is a professor on the BEES and Biology faculties at Drexel. He has regularly mentored STAR fellows since coming to Drexel in 2011. He runs the iSTAR Costa Rica program in Monteverde, where a number of STAR fellows have done field research on animal behavior and tropical ecology. Sean's current research interests include tropical biodiversity, animal social behavior, brain development, and the evolution of body form.
Priyanka Shah is a current 4th year medical student at Drexel who is applying for internal medicine residency this year. She's excited to talk about her academic journey in STAR and beyond. Research has been a large part of her career in undergrad and medical school, and it all started with STAR!
Matt Wiese is a Mechanical Engineer at the US Naval Research Laboratory where he focuses on robotic design for terrestrial and space applications. During his time at Drexel, he pursued a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (Class of 18') and participated in American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Theme Park Engineering and Design, and Drexel's Football Comedy Improv Team. The STAR Program allowed him to get hands on research experience in robotics by working with Dr. Youngmoo Kim and Ryan Young at Drexel's ExCITe Center.
