Event Description
According to the CDC, nearly 5 million people are treated for skin cancer annually, and since 1970 that figure has been increasing. Skin cancer is the most common cancer, and it is one that in many cases can be prevented.
The City of Philadelphia, the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation, Independence Blue Cross, and the Phillies have recently partnered to make sunscreen more available. There are now sunscreen dispensers at Citizens Bank Park, City Hall and along Boathouse Row. Making sunscreen available is just one step in preventing skin cancer and other conditions.
The Be Skin Smart staff grand rounds is designed to provide staff with essential knowledge about skin health. We will focus on the following:
- Debunking common myths about skin health
- Providing information about making healthy sun safety choices
- Basics of diagnosis and treatment
