Please join us for the Fourth Annual West Philadelphia Action for Early Learning Back to School BBQ and Backpack Give-Away. Each year, AFEL distributes back-packs with school supplies for both school-aged and Pre-K students. Vendors and Program Partners are invited to provide information or activities.  

The West Philadelphia Action for Early Learning Initiative has created a special award THE AFEL ACTION IN EDUCATION AWARD To honor a person who demonstrates the spirit, and strong commitment and fearless action in the pursuit of equal opportunity to quality education for all children.   

For the inaugural year of this Award, Drexel AFEL will honor Ms. Gwen Morris, Chair of Mantua Civic Association’s Education Committee, former educator and dedicated Mantua resident, for her many years of service and commitment to Mantua, the Morton McMichael School and the children of Mantua.
