Event Description
Join us for the opening weekend of our new exhibit, Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies!

Who doesn’t love a baby dinosaur? Adults and kids alike will find something cool to do and interesting to learn as we hatch the past here at the Academy! Check out juvenile dinosaur specimens, make and take cool crafts, and marvel at nature’s most perfect design: the incredible egg!

This weekend only, you can compete in the “Academy Egg Drop Challenge.” Bring your own egg-shellent apparatus from home or borrow some of our supplies to participate in the challenge.—this activity is free with admission to Tiny Titans! Read on for challenge guidelines.

“Academy Egg Drop Challenge” Drop Zone
Drops at noon, 2, and 4 p.m.

Check out the challengers as we drop their precious eggs from high in the air. Which egg safety apparatus design will protect them the best? Participation in the “Academy Egg Drop Challenge” is free with wristband for Tiny Titans. Sign up for your time slot in Serengeti Classroom on Level 2. Anyone can come to watch and cheer on the challengers!

Auditorium Show: Rad Reptile Relatives: Dandy Dinos and Bodacious Birds
11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The most popular reptiles are actually extinct: dinosaurs! And even though they have been gone for millions of years, their legacy lives on in their closest relatives, birds. Learn about reptiles through the ages, and meet some live animals as you explore how birds are related to reptiles.

Nest Sweet Nest

If you think modern parents have a tough job, imagine keeping a whole nest full of delicate eggs and fragile babies safe from hungry predators! Compare casts of dinosaur nests to real bird nests and touch a rare piece of fossilized dinosaur egg.

Egg-shellent!

Not just a delicious part of your breakfast, eggs are about as cool as they come. Learn why they are the perfect size and shape to withstand seemingly impossible forces, how they are used around the world, and what wild and wonderful variations they come in.

Dinosaur Egg Craft

Make and take your own little dinosaur egg to nurture. Will it hatch at home?

Tiny Titans Microscope Cart

Dinosaur eggs are even cooler under the scope! Check out the unique structure of a dinosaur egg, and test your dinosaur knowledge at this technology-enabled Cart of Curiosity.

“Academy Egg Drop Challenge” Maker Space

Birds and dinosaurs take care of their eggs against all odds. Do you have what it takes to protect such a fragile, thin-shelled thing? Design an apparatus that can withstand a drop from the Mezzanine of Dinosaur Hall and protect a raw egg inside. Participation in the “Academy Egg Drop Challenge” is free with your wristband to Tiny Titans. To ensure a positive experience for all guests, we ask that you work with your group to create one apparatus and sign up for a time slot on the day of your visit.
