Tell Us How You Really Feel! Art as a Tool to Communicate Complex Emotions (5/11/2023)

Exhibition from December 1, 2022 through June 1, 2023. Tell Us How You Really Feel! is an exhibition of student, faculty and alumni artwork examining the aforementioned concepts. Contributing artists are asked to consider the following prompt: "Create a visual representation of a time in your life when you felt emotion that was too hard to put into words." The artist's responses will be presented in the Drexel Founding Collection's Rincliffe Gallery in an effort to show the practical application of empathy through art. During the exhibition artists' work will be sold, if they so choose, with half the proceeds donated to The Jed Foundation and The Trevor Project to support ongoing mental health resources for young peoples. EM|POWER – Drexel Writing Festival (5/11/2023)

In 2023, the Drexel Writing Festival will explore the theme, “em|power,” an idea that encapsulates both power dynamics and the drive for empowerment, particularly for those who have previously been powerless. Featured guests include fiction writer Molly Antepol, author of The Unamericans; Cihuayollotl, trans woman Xicanx poet Moncho Alvarado; Kim Kelly, the author of Fight Like Hell: the untold story of American labor; and Philadelphia Inquirer journalist Helen Ubinas who writes about the impact of gun violence in Philadelphia. In addition, Drexel faculty member Jakeya Caruthers will speak on race, gender, and state discipline; faculty member Travis Curtice will discuss repression and policing.

Exhibition from March 11, 2022 through May 19, 2023. On March 11, the Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery in the Main Building will open A New Kind of House, a year-long exhibition celebrating eight years of Writers Room—a university-community literary arts program engaged in creative placemaking and art for social justice. The photography and writing of students and neighbors, displayed alongside and in conversation with pieces from The Drexel Collection, will engage in a rich dialogue about the changing face of our university and surrounding neighborhoods.

Writers Room is a diverse, intergenerational collective of students/alumni, faculty/staff, and neighborhood residents whose work demonstrates a desire for collaborative opportunities in our joint communities. A New Kind of House is created in partnership between Writers Room, ArtistYear and The Drexel Collection. Supported in part by Canon CSA and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. The exhibition is curated by Lori Waselchuk.

Join us May 11th for our Weekly Physics Colloquium! Guest Speaker, Dr. Diana Parno, will be joining us from the Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University.

Ever since it was first hypothesized more than 90 years ago, the strange and ghostly particle called the neutrino has mystified and inspired particle and nuclear physicists. After decades of experimental and theoretical work, we have now firmly established that neutrinos have mass, and yet their absolute mass scale remains unknown. Now, after many years of painstaking design, construction, and commissioning work, the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino experiment (KATRIN) has recently improved the world's best direct neutrino-mass sensitivity by more than a factor of two, establishing at 90% confidence that the neutrino mass scale is less than 0.8 eV/c^2. I will give a tour of KATRIN's 70-m beamline, describe our spectral fits and systematic uncertainties, and show a glimpse of KATRIN's future.

Allegra Pronesti is a non-binary, trans-masc fashion designer based in Philadelphia. Allegra aims to give queer and trans people fashion options that validate and celebrate who they are by making unisex clothing that isn't just about making men's clothing wearable for women. They strive to blur the lines between the binary gender expression in fashion.

After the discussion, there will be an opportunity to get your personalized measurements to use when shopping virtually. We will also have example garments and discount codes from the online retailer En Femme for attendees.
