Dean's Lecture Series: The Vagaries of Care
Start Date: 1/31/2024Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Date: 1/31/2024End Time: 3:00 PM

Event Description

Join us for the inaugural Dean's Lecture Series when Mercer Gary, PhD, presents "The Vagaries of Care" on January 31. Dr. Gary, an associate professor of Philosophy at Drexel University and a Hastings Center Presidential Scholar, is a feminist philosopher and bioethicist working at the intersection of care ethics and emerging technologies. Her research analyzes the ethical meanings of care in a context where care work is devalued and delegated to technology.

Drawing on feminist approaches that ground responsibility in relationships, Dr. Gary examines human relationships' moral and political significance to technology. Her work at The Hastings Center builds on previous research focused on care for and among aging and disabled people.

The Dean's Lecture Series introduces research and scholarship by new faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences to our larger Drexel community.
