Start Date: 11/10/2020Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Date: 11/10/2020End Time: 3:00 PM

Event Description
COVID-19 and the repercussions of the pandemic have impacted almost all areas of life, and perhaps nowhere more so than food and eating. Working from home can lead to challenges because of the availability of food in the environment, while stressors associated with isolation and social distancing might make it more likely to turn to food to help cope. Based on both their clinical and research experience, in this hour-long talk Drs. Paakhi Srivastava and Mallory Frayn will discuss some of the impacts of COVID-19 on eating behaviors, as well as easy strategies to help address concerns from mindless snacking to emotional eating.

Mallory Frayn is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the WELL Center at Drexel (The Drexel University Center for Weight, Eating and Lifestyle Science) working with Dr. Adrienne Juarascio, where she provides treatment to individuals with binge eating and other eating disorders. As part of her doctoral work in clinical psychology at McGill University, she studied emotional eating and its relationship to weight outcomes. She has delivered numerous groups and workshops related to changing eating behaviours and through her work hopes to help individuals develop healthier relationships with food.

Paakhi Srivastava, Ph.D is an Assistant Research Professor at the WELL Center, Drexel University. She is interested in identifying modifiable cognitive and emotional factors that maintain transdiagnostic binge eating disorders. Specifically, she is interested in understanding the role of body image disturbances in maintaining binge eating. She is also interested in developing novel treatments, and treatment augmentations such as digital health technology tools to improve body image disturbances in individuals with binge eating disorders. Her current research involves development and evaluation of a smartphone application that is designed to deliver interventions to improve body dissatisfaction in real-time to individuals with binge eating.
