Pennoni Panels: Personal vs. Political: The Benefits and Baggage of Identity Politics
Start Date: 11/7/2019Start Time: 3:30 PM
End Date: 11/7/2019End Time: 5:00 PM

Event Description
As we approach the 2020 elections, candidates across parties are deploying their identities to better appeal and align with voters. “Identity politics” is a term bandied about to either emphasize the significance of understanding a multifaceted constituency and derided for being inconsequential. Voters have rallied to identify with politicians for what they represent as well as their policies. Much has been written already about the utility of identity politics and what it offers politicians and voters – and this conversation will be devoted to discussing the issues that arise when identity comes to the forefront of politics and public policy.
