Event Description

Subject: Statewide Congressional Redistricting Town Hall (Thursday at 6 PM)

Pennsylvania made news last year when state government failed to settle on a map for the 2018 U.S. House elections. The U.S. Supreme Court weighed in, and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court imposed a plan. While that map mostly respects county and city lines, it still works to one party's advantage, and it does not help minority-party voters stuck in a district that favors a different party. This event will brief you on efforts toward non-partisan districting — and solicit your opinion on political representation, which we will communicate to the Statewide Town Hall. For more information on the current district map, see this short explainer from the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Part I of the event is a broadcast (1 hour) from Muhlenberg College, covering basic issues in redistricting reform and statewide implications of the map.

Part II is a chance for audience members to assess the impact of the map on their communities, as well as the state of political representation in those communities. We will have small-group discussions (25 minutes), then report back to the larger group (20 minutes).

In Part III of the event, we will live-tweet questions (30 minutes) to the Muhlenberg panel of experts:
• Carol Kuniholm, Fair Districts PA Chair
• Amanda Holt, Lehigh County Commissioner
• Jill Greene, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters
• Pennsylvania Senator Mike Folmer (R)
• Chris Borick, Muhlenberg College Professor of Political Science & Director of the Muhlenberg College Institute for Public Opinion

For more information on the Statewide Town Hall, see this page at Muhlenberg College.

This event is open to the public. Please share this invitation at will.
