Dissertation Defense: An Urban Approach to Adolescent Birth Rates in Latin America
Start Date: 3/14/2022Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Date: 3/14/2022End Time: 11:00 AM

Event Description
Ariela Braverman Bronstein, MD, MPH, of the department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, will present her dissertation defense on Monday, March 14.

Despite the implementation of adolescent pregnancy prevention programs Latin America still holds the second highest adolescent birth rate worldwide. The slow decline and national-level evidence on the association of adolescent birth rates with economic growth, inequalities, and socioeconomic status suggest upstream factors involved in the pathway of adolescent birth rates. Through this dissertation we examine the variation of adolescent birth rates between and within countries and cities in Latin America. In addition, we will examine how different characteristics of the urban environment are associated with adolescent birth rates within the region.
