Scientist Saturday: Giant Clams
Start Date: 3/16/2019Start Time: 1:00 PM
End Date: 3/16/2019End Time: 4:00 PM

Event Description

Meet graduate students Lincoln Rehm and Michelle Gannon, who study giant clams. These marvelous mollusks are an important part of coral reef ecology in the Pacific Ocean. They have brilliantly colored tissues with abundant algae that help make food for the giant clam to use to build its shell.

Meet and take a picture with the largest mollusk shells. Get hands-on practice filtering water to learn which components of the water are food for the algae and giant clams. You will see what really makes their relationship special and so important to a reef.
