Event Description In this talk Matthew Lombard, PhD, Temple University, will present a diverse series of vivid examples of old, new and potential presence technologies and phenomena, and review the current status of and potential future developments in this area. The talk will also highlight some of the scholarly projects on presence he's done and presence projects of current Temple graduate students.
From cave paintings and statues to virtual reality and intelligent robots, media technologies have provided increasingly compelling illusions of non-mediated reality, with applications in nearly every facet of life from art to zoology. In the last six decades this trend and the modern technology developments that are pushing it forward ever faster have become a focus of interdisciplinary research and theory under the label presence, short for telepresence. |
