Event Description About the Organization: Spells Writing Lab is a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that develops the creative and expository writing abilities of school-age children through free, fun, and imaginative writing programs and teacher development opportunities.
Service Description: Volunteers are needed to help present superhero-themed interactive science activities to children visiting our table at three Philadelphia Science Festival events. Volunteers will guide children as they try on weights that simulate the gravity on Superman's home planet, use gloves to simulate Spiderman's grippy fingers, learn how Thor's hammer acts like a gyroscope, and have magnet-powered races to demonstrate Magneto's power. Finally, volunteers will help participants create their own science-inspired superhero or supervillain!
