Learning Objectives

  • Discuss current role of CT and MRI in the radiographic evaluation of newly diagnosed or recurrent PMP/appendiceal cancer. Which modality of imaging more accurately determines amount of disease and/or peritoneal carcinomatosis index (PCI)?
  • Describe the role of modern expanded molecular profiling/next generation sequencing to determine optimal chemotherapeutic agents to employ in the neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings to treat PMP/appendiceal cancer.
  • Explain the role of and advances in intraperitoneal immunotherapy for the treatment of PMP/appendiceal cancer.
  • Analyze the status of clinical trials utilizing CRS and HIPEC for PMP/appendiceal cancer.
  • Emphasize the need for standardization of a common pathological classification for PMP/appendiceal cancer.
  • Assess the requirements to standardize a multidisciplinary treatment approach to optimize patient outcomes.
