SOUND Studies: A Program of Scholarship in Conversation

Event Description
We all see race, but how do we "hear" race in American culture and history? For this program of scholarship in conversation moderated by Andre' Carrington, PhD, assistant professor of English and philosophy, Jennifer Lynn Stoever — associate professor of English at SUNY-Binghamton and founding editor of "Sounding Out! The Sound Studies Blog" — will deliver a presentation on her book "The Sonic Color Line:  Race and the Cultural Politics of Listening" (NYU, 2016).

 

A Q&A on sound studies, music and other aural media in American culture will follow. Refreshments will be served; this event is free and open to the public.

This program has been supported by the Department of English and Philosophy, the Africana Studies program, and the Career Development Awards (Office of the Provost/Faculty Affairs).
