Webinar: Making Sense of the Medication Abortion Litigation with Professor David S. Cohen
Start Date: 5/1/2023Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 5/1/2023End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description

On May 1, the Health Law Program at Drexel University’s Kline School of Law will present “Making Sense of the Medication Abortion Litigation with Professor David S. Cohen,” the first webinar in its new Vital Signs series. Professor Cohen will give a briefing on the status of and prospects for the litigation concerning the abortion drug mifepristone, starting at noon.

On April 21, the Supreme Court issued a stay of Texas judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s opinion ordering the drug off the market while the case proceeds in lower courts. Professor Cohen, co-author of “Abortion Pills,” forthcoming in the Stanford Law Review, will explain why the Kacsmaryk opinion is unprecedented, the constitutional issues involved, the likely next steps, and the significance of related pending litigation. Widely published and widely cited in the media, Professor Cohen is known for his ability to break down the complexities of constitutional litigation and explain the interplay of law and politics in the ongoing struggle for reproductive rights in the United States.
