Social Studies in the National Park: What is a library of life and why is it naturally awesome?
Start Date: 5/10/2023Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Date: 5/10/2023End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description

Join the Academy at Independence National Historical Park to explore animal, plant and invertebrate specimens from the Academy’s world-renowned collections — a real library of life.

Discover how studying living things around the world helps us understand our own place in it, and gain a new appreciation for the naturally awesome city where we live. Philadelphia has been a center of learning, curiosity and scientific discovery for centuries, and you are part of it, too!

Take part in a social studies festival to learn about state and national history, geography, archeology, and more! Engage with topics ranging from 18th-century medicine to "treasure" found in privy pits. The hands-on experiences — presented at tables, on the stage, and through roving programs — are appropriate for kids of all ages, especially elementary school students. This event is free and open to the public.
