Monochromatic Expressive Self-Portrait on Toned Paper (Tri-Tone)

Instructor: Mark Stockton Associate Teaching Professor, Design/Drawing

This workshop will explore how to create an expressive self-portrait using a tri-tone color system. The process for developing this monochromatic, life-size portrait will be demonstrated in a step-by-step tutorial, including setting up source photographs, establishing a value pattern, and employing an effective color system. This project—which incorporates studio and digital techniques—is designed as a clear step into the complicated world of color for students who want to expand their skill-sets. We welcome both students and teachers to join this webinar.

Note: Although, you are welcome to follow along for parts of this this 1 hour workshop, I generally recommend this exercise be completed in a 2-10 hour time-frame. I will demonstrate the basics and the techniques today, but a much longer time period should be devoted to these techniques to get the best results.
