Sean O’Donnell - "Blackwater running: A journey through Peruvian
flooded forest, or, How not to load a boat..."
O’Donnell will recount highlights and (low points) of his recent trip to work in Amazonian flooded forest with a BCC natural history film crew. Through images and video he will reflect on the fascinating but poorly-studied ecology of a region of extensive flooded forest during the high-water season. Journey with him from the Amazon city of Iquitos to the Tapiche River, as we ponder the value of living in close association with three roosters, a large dog, and a high diversity of rodents.

Daeschler - "The 2018-2019 Antarctic
Paleontological Expedition"
Logistical challenges are a big part of any fieldwork in remote parts of the earth. During December and January Dr. Daeschler and colleagues deployed into the interior of Antarctica to collect geological and paleontological data from the Middle Devonian-age Aztec Siltstone. High winds and drifting snow slowed down their team but ultimately they were successful in sampling a series of outcrops in the area around Deception Glacier. During the final week at Deception Glacier they were joined by two film makers as part of their effort to develop broader impacts.
