Event Description The Judaic Studies Program presents a lecture and booksigning by Dr. Michael Walzer, Professor Emeritus, School of Social Science, Institute for Advanced Study.
Dr. Walzer will discuss different versions of peace within the Hebrew bible, covering a remarkable range of political positions. He will read and explicate these texts together with our Drexel students and guests in the audience. Michael Walzer is the author of numerous influential books and articles on political thought, many of which have been widely translated. In the realm of Jewish tradition, they include Exodus and Revolution, Exilic Politics in the Hebrew Bible, and the two-volume co-edited The Jewish Political Tradition. His other works include Politics and Passion: Toward A More Egalitarian Liberalism, Arguing About War, On Toleration, Just And Unjust Wars, and Obligations: Essays on Disobedience, War and Citizenship.
This special afternoon includes a book launch for the just-released In God's Shadow: Politics in the Hebrew Bible.
Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Books will be sold by the Penn Book Center.
