Event Description Affinitizing is a methodology used by designers to uncover relationships and patterns as they research problems and solutions. A traditional affinity diagram consists of numerous color-coded sticky notes, each reflecting one observation, quote, finding, question, or the like. Notes are posted to a wall and clustered by affinities. Clusters are named and will disclose insights and opportunities for problem resolution. In a classroom, co-learners review each other’s clusters, rearrange, add, edit and notate, revealing other perspectives. But how can we bring this valuable collaborative activity to an online environment? Padlet! This freemium whiteboard application allows the user to create an online bulletin board that fully mimics the Affinitizing activity. The student can create notes or attach images, sketches or videos. Notes can be labeled, arranged and clustered. Padlets can be shared online with co-learners who are able to rearrange, add, move, edit and notate, providing alternative perspectives. At last, Padlet permits a way to use the valuable Affinitizing methodology in online learning. Other uses for Padlet include design boards, research boards and opportunities for visual/spatial learning. |
