Event Description This session will focus on two fellowships that fund study in critical languages for graduates and undergraduates who are US citizens.
Critical Language Scholarships are fully-funded intensive summer language institutes abroad for Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu. Participants earn the equivalent of one full year of language credits in 10-12 weeks.
Boren Awards fund study of 60+ less commonly taught languages in world regions that are critical to U.S. strategic security interests. Students can apply to Boren for study abroad, international co-op, or research projects – combined with language study - in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. In exchange for funding, Boren awardees commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation. Register in advance.
