Challenges in Defining Optimal Pregnancy Weight Gain
Start Date: 3/1/2023Start Time: 2:30 PM
End Date: 3/1/2023End Time: 3:30 PM

Event Description

Join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics for this event in their Seminar Series.

Lisa Bodnar, PhD, Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, will present.

How much weight pregnant individuals should gain during pregnancy has been debated for decades. In the most recent national recommendations for pregnancy weight gain, the Institute of Medicine did not have important evidence or approaches to generate guidelines that balance risks of high and low weight gain for the pregnant individual and child. In this presentation, I present the challenges in defining optimal pregnancy weight gain ranges and propose a solution to those challenges.

Dr. Bodnar is a professor of epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. She studies the impact of nutritional status during pregnancy on maternal and child health.
