Title:
The Zeen® Mobility Invention: An 'Elevating Walker Chair' from the Inventor of Steadicam®

Speaker:
Garrett Brown
exokinetics
CEO & Co-Founder

Details:
Prior-art devices to assist mobility-challenged individuals comprised two broad categories: walkers and wheelchairs.

Walkers add some support, but load the user’s hands and arms and do little to prevent falls. Wheelchairs atrophy ambulatory musculature and constrict circulation. Powered wheelchairs supply autonomous transport, but also at the expense of long-term ambulatory, circulatory, and cardiac health.

What’s missing is a means for mobility-challenged individuals to effortlessly sit and stand, to walk with a natural gait, and to interact with their environment–to cook, clean, do the wash, and get dressed–or to transport themselves at the socializing altitude of the rest of humanity.

The invention called Zeen is an 'elevating walker chair' that combines the freedom to stride and coast over long distances and at human height, with the ability to scoot hands-free within small spaces to carry out daily tasks; to stand, walk, or be wheeled along at a comfortable height relative to other people; to sit down and stand up again without ever departing from, or changing ones relationship to, the device–with up to 100% of one's weight adjustably supported throughout the transition.

Biosketch:
Garrett Brown invented the Oscar-winning Steadicam® stabilizer and used it on nearly 100 movies, beginning with the Oscar-winning film 'Rocky.' His Skycam™, Mobycam and Divecam still pursue athletes worldwide, and in 2009, chased their inventor into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Brown lives and works in Philadelphia, and is a 2013 inductee into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Garrett and his partners have just debuted a revolutionary mobility device for those battling age, injury and disease. The Zeen is a ‘chair that gets up and goes.' It enjoyably bridges sitting, standing, walking, and coasting. To see the Zeen in action on a recent episode of CBS Saturday, please click here.
