Learning Objectives

  • Describe the initial approach to diagnosis and management of a 10-year-old child with altered mental status
  • Discuss the imaging, lab work, and other diagnostic studies obtained for this patient, and the clinical progression leading to the final diagnosis
  • Discuss the pathophysiology, management, and prognosis of the final diagnosis
