Nielufar Varjavand, MD, will discuss how to recognize situations when skills need refreshing or remediating, describe why physicians leave and return to medicine, interpret current organizations’ guidelines, highlight the importance of communication skills and demonstrate integration of communication skills with overall refreshing/remediating knowledge.
Dr. Varjavand is a professor of medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, where she focuses on graduate medical education of students, residents and physicians returning to clinical medicine. Since 2006, she has been the program director of Drexel's Physician Refresher/Reentry Course. She has been the director of Global Health Education, which includes the Medical Spanish elective, since 2014, as well as a research scholars track, and the co-director of Case-Based Learning for first-year medical students.
Dr. Varjavand is a member of the board of directors of the Coalition for Physician Enhancement, a consortium of professionals with expertise in quality assurance, medical education and the assessment, licensing and accreditation of referred physicians seeking higher levels of performance in patient care.
