Type 2 Diabetes: What's Food Got to Do With It? (15 Wellness Points)*
Start Date: 11/17/2021Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 11/17/2021End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description
Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic multi-systemic disease, which occurs when the body’s usage and regulation of blood glucose is impaired. This leads to persistent high blood glucose levels, resulting in disorders of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems. Improving dietary quality by consuming predominantly plant-based foods, which have low glycemic index values and are rich in nutrients, has been found to enhance the proper regulation of blood glucose, thereby minimizing the risk of diabetes-related complications.

This diabetes wellness talk will discuss the science of healthful nutrition, unpack some myths and guide you on how to incorporate plant-based foods into your diet.

Cynthia Klobodu, a third year doctoral student in the Nutrition Sciences Department and a member of Drexel Food lab, and Rachel Sherman, pastry chef and Drexel Food Lab project manager, designed this presentation to help you improve your knowledge of risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes and how to modify your meal plan skillfully.
